When did you realize you were really in labor?
Being my third child I was sure my daughter would come early. Here I was, two days after my due date worried about needing to be induced. I woke up, angry I was still pregnant and frustrated from all the questions "Do you feel anything yet? Is today the day?" I was so ready. I made breakfast and coffee, sent my husband off to work. Ate a bowl of ice cream and watched Netflix, waiting, hoping and expecting.. still nothing. Until I felt that one pain. Is this it? I thought, did I really feel what I just felt? I went to the bathroom and after needing to urgently go. (diarrhea right before labor is a reality for me) . I knew this Friday was the day.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The pain! All three of my children were born naturally and although I wouldn't change a thing it is hard to overcome. With all three I reach a point from 9 cm until push and I honestly don't know if I can make it. Every single time doubt creeps in, fear whispers "you aren't strong enough, you can't do this, this won't end". The beautiful thing is that wasn't true, I was strong enough, my body did it and the pain did end.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Anticipating holding my child, knowing that the pain would be over and my baby would be in my arms. I watched a lot of documentaries and read a lot of books but honestly, I was still unprepared. Each of my experiences was different and none of them are like what others have told me. The only advice I can give is trusting what you are enough, your body was made to do this, it won't last forever and in the end, you will see how strong you are.

What surprised you about your birth?
My baby was huge, just an ounce shy of 9 pounds she looked giant compared to her brothers. The next day I learned that she presented shoulder first (usually cause for emergency c-section), had her cord around her neck twice and was blue. After she was delivered I wasn't even aware of the dangerous situation. My doctor saved her life.

You can, trust the history of all the women who have done this before you, less intervention is usually what I best for your baby. It's worth it.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Relaxing in between contractions helped. In the end, I fell asleep in between the pain, it really helps with energy. I always tried to keep moving when I could. While nothing takes it away thinking forward to my next position I wanted to try to keep me hopeful. The bath felt nice but I wish it was hotter.

What position did you end up delivering in?
On my back, I was rather uncomfortable. My doctor wouldn't let me sit up more, which I learned was because of my daughter's bad position.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Wonderful, I was so filled with relief and joy.
