When did you realize you were really in labor?
My water broke at 12:31 am on January 7th. It came out slowly unlike my first time when it all gushed out at once.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing about going natural was letting go of my fear, anxieties and self doubt and just giving into the "wave."

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I used claraderm (essential oils) on my skin to help prevent tearing (no tears by the way!) Drinking the red raspberry leaf tea and eating dates also seemed to be beneficial. Prayer was the best thing I could do!

What surprised you about your birth?
The most surprising thing about my labor was how quickly he came after pushing and how wonderful and empowered I felt afterwards.

Go into your labor with confidence. Know that you CAN do this. Your body was made for this and you are capable. Surrender your body to the contractions and let go of all fears and anxieties. The pain will pass and it will be so worth it, I promise!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Closing my eyes and allowing the "wave" (contraction) to wash over me was the best strategy for me as well as breathing through the contractions.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I planned on having a water birth but did not make it to the tub so I birthed on my side in bed with my right leg in the air. He came out perfectly.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was incredible. I had this amazing sense of pride and love for him right away!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
My advice is to go into your labor with confidence. Know that you CAN do this. Your body was made for this and you are capable. Surrender your body to the contractions and let go of all fears and anxieties. The pain will pass and it will be so worth it, I promise!
