When did you realize you were really in labor?
I woke up to contractions. even though I was having contractions all weekend, these were coming at regular intervals over a period of an hour.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I think the most challenging part was convincing myself that I could handle the pain of contractions. There is a real mental strength in assuring yourself that an epidural would not be the best choice for labor and delivery or baby and that this is a natural process that does not need medical intervention if everything is normal.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Research research research!!! I could not know enough about what was about to happen. understanding what was going on with my body and baby assisted me in keeping everything natural and gave me a very good delivery and very healthy baby.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised that it wasn't as horrific as some people led me to believe. I was surprised at how my body knew exactly what to do and how quickly it got it done.

You CAN do it. this is what our bodies were built to do. trust your instincts, do your research, and don't be bullied by the medical community who want to turn a natural process into a medical procedure. this is what is best for you and your baby.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Moving around and not just sitting in bed. I leaned on my husband, rocked in a rocking chair, and sat on the toilet.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Laying on my back.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Like I was being handed the best reward for the hardest thing I had ever done.
-
What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
