When did you realize you were really in labor?
I had gone to bed and felt crampy. I called my husband who owns a semi and was 2.5 hours away. We were not sure if we were in labor so decided we would check back with each other in a few hours. I called him 41 minutes later and asked that he come home, he even got a ticket from the DOT!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
We took a Bradley Method class together and it was invaluable not only to have the knowledge of how labor and birth works physically but also how to deal with labor together as a team.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
We labored for 15 hours and my husband was amazing suggesting different positions to labor in as I was just able to think in the moment! We started pushing and a lot of meconium was coming out, that's how we found out our little girl was breech and ended up having a c-section. Not at all what our plan was but the Doctors told us that laboring natural up to that point helped both her and me and that I was an excellent candidate for a VBAC. It is a bummer that we couldn't deliver naturally but we do have a healthy baby girl and that's what matters!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Constantly changing positions, I really liked standing and holding my husbands neck while rocking back and forth.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I started pushing on my knees leaning my torso over a birthing ball.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was so surreal to finally meet her, we had started the path to having a baby a year and a half prior so finally meeting her amazing!
