When did you realize you were really in labor?
On the way into the city from our home, when contractions were all of a sudden almost unbearable- and I had to start telling myself out loud "you can do this!"
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Feeling every single inch of your baby being born. Knowing exactly what was stretching and where. Birthing your babies head, and resisting the urge to push with all your might, because it is so important to push the head out slow.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Research natural birth like crazy! I looked at thousands of photos of natural births and hundreds of birth stories and I would day dream daily of having a natural experience and holding my daughter in my arms.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
That I did it, and it wasn't even that bad! It was extremely intense, and of course painful, but magical and empowering. Experiencing it naturally was life changing!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Slow, heavy breathing! A lot of low moaning as well as my daughter was being born.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I laboured and pushed on my left side with my legs pulled into the air, and my husband and midwives moved me to my back just as she was born.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
SURREAL. Absolutely magical. I could NOT believe that she was finally here, and I had delivered her all natural. I was overwhelmed by love and had never felt so proud.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
DO IT. You can do it! It is the most amazing experience of a lifetime! It will absolutely change your perspective of birth and yourself (positively).
