What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Taking the time to bond over the upcoming birth with my husband.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I had two children naturally outside of the hospital without medication. One of these children was born at 42 weeks and was almost 10 llbs. I was surprised that I was unable to deliver this child without medication and vacuum assistance. If I had been at home our baby wouldn't have made it. I only went to the hospital because I was having a VBAC. My 3 year old was a C section baby, due to his size and position.

Find a place that will respect your birth preferences but is prepared for emergencies. I would have never forgiven myself if my baby had died. Also ask for the consent forms well ahead of time so that you can strike the things you don't agree with. I was afraid of the hospital but, it wasn't that bad. That says a lot coming from a well seasoned natural child birther.
Also Make sure you have some one with you for strong support who believes in your plan.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Self hypnosis using hypno Birthing the Mongan method.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
On my back in the birth curl. I spent the first few hours standing.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Amazing and overwhelmingly emotional. An undescribable moment of elation and gratitude that I chose a hospital birth this time around.
