Taking the Bradley Method Classes Helped Ashley During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I realized I was in labor when taking a warm bath, practicing deep breathing, and talking with my husband was no longer working to manage my pain.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The most challenging part was pushing. I felt that was the most painful as I had terrible back labor.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

The most helpful thing we did to prepare was taking the Bradley Method classes. The classes helped us plan how to manage the pain and empowered us to give informed consent to procedures.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

I was surprised how well I was able to manage the pain! We didn't get to the hospital until I was 7cm and from the time we checked in to the time she was born was less than 2 hours!

  • Stay at home as long as possible and have a plan as to how you will manage your pain and distract yourself in the meantime.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

A warm bath helped the best.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I ended up delivering on back.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

It felt surreal to finally hold her!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

My best advice is to stay at home as long as possible and have a plan as to how you will manage your pain and distract yourself in the meantime
