When did you realize you were really in labor?
I had a stretch and sweep done around noon (I was 10 days overdue) and by 6:00 that evening I started having contractions every 5 minutes.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing about going natural was not knowing if I would be able to cope with the pain for an extended period of time if labor would last long.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
The most helpful things I did to prepare for childbirth were: read as much I could and take the Mama Natural Birth Course. I also found it very helpful to build up a good relationship with our midwife and doula.

What surprised you about your birth?
How long early labor lasted! I was in early labor for 48 hours - contractions every five minutes. They were manageable but did not allow for sleeping and laying down was very uncomfortable as well. I was also surprised that I did not like being in water at all during active labor/transition! I had thought that I would love water!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Moving around, the birth ball and counter-pressure on my back!

What position did you end up delivering in?
On my side. I had wanted to deliver on hands and knees but I was too tired for that position.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Incredible and indescribable! It is so worth everything that you have to go through!

How did the Mama Natural Birth Class help you in your childbirth?
The Mama Natural Birth Class helped us to know what stage of labor we were in and anticipate what was coming next. I love how the course covers so many aspects of childbirth...it equips you with all the knowledge you need to make informed decisions! I also have the Mama Natural Pregnancy and Childbirth book which I high recommend!
