  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Took a natural birth class and watched LOTS of natural birth videos on youtube. Also having a great home birth midwife was essential.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How I just knew when to push. I kept thinking, 'will I know when it's time for the next phase?'. Yes, I did know when it was time!

  • Do it! Our bodies are designed to deliver babies. You can always transfer to the hospital but it's better to avoid interventions to give yourself a fighting chance.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Breathing. I labored in the pool at first but that became unbearable. Laboring on the toilet was a lot of help.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

On my back in bed. Baby's heart rate was dropping during contractions while I was squatting. It went really fast from moving to the bed to having my baby, maybe 30 minutes.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Ahhhhhmazing! So soft and squishy. She was so warm. And snuggly. I just loved it!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Do it! Our bodies are designed to deliver babies. You can always transfer to the hospital but it's better to avoid interventions to give yourself a fighting chance.
