When did you realize you were really in labor?
I had an elective induction at 39 weeks. It took the pitocin about 4 hrs to start really kicking in & starting real labor.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing about going natural was the pitocin made my contractions unbearable. I literally thought I was dying & felt out of control & panic set in. But on the other hand, it was incredible to feel everything, to feel the whole process of transition, my body taking over with an intense, uncontrollable pushing all on its own, my baby descending through the birth canal, the burning pain of her head crowning, her head "popping out" (that's the best way to describe it) Followed by the rest of her body. It was beyond intense but incredibly amazing at the same time.

That I actually accomplished my goal of a completely unmedicated, natural birth while on pitocin. And also how good I felt afterwards. I still can't believe I did it!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I labored in the tub which helped relax me & really got things progressing quickly. Also counter pressure. My doula was amazing. I couldn't have made it through without her. Hire a doula!

What position did you end up delivering in?
I wanted to try hands & knees but end up delivering while laying on my back with my husband & doula holding my legs.
