When did you realize you were really in labor?
After the bloody show, I knew it was soon. Sure enough within 24hrs, contractions started and were immediately very painful.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The discomfort of the contractions and not knowing when they would end. I never had an early labor phase with this birth so I was thrown off and thought I would be in that level of pain for a very long time.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I took a class specifically designed for mothers who were birthing again and their partners. It was a workshop that not only brought new light from my first birth but hope and excitement for my second. I also refreshed myself on the process of labor and learned new coping techniques from birth books.

What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised by how fast it went! I was also surprised by the rhythm of my contractions. They were shorter and a bit more spread apart, yet managed to get the job done. I learned while there is a general outline of how births occur, every birth is unique and different.

Breathe and go with the downward pressure, try not to fight it. I knew if I could just bring down baby- it would be over soon and it was!
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
I loved the shower and eventually getting into a warm tub!
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I remember thinking that she was so tiny! Relief flooded over me knowing she was finally here!
-
What did you name your baby, and why?
Eva Delia. Her first name is bilingual and does not have a nickname that was important to me. Her middle name is my grandmother's middle name.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Breathe and go with the downward pressure, try not to fight it. I knew if I could just bring down baby- it would be over soon and it was!
