Staying Active and Learning To Really Relax Helped Lauren During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    This was my 3rd baby so I knew pretty quickly! After about the 3rd contraction I told my husband I was calling my mom.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    It's very mental. Staying focused. I've gone natural before but they were very different experiences.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    Stay active and learn to really relax! Practice relaxing so it comes second nature.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    How long labor was. This was my third baby but my longest labor at 15 hours! My body was chilling at 8cm for hours But once my midwife broke my water (ouch!) my 9lb 3oz baby was birthed in 11 minutes!

  • You can do! Get your head in the game and do your research before hand. Learn to relax.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Warm water in the birthing pool. Heating pad on lower back with counter pressure from my husband.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    That's a complicated answer! I was leaned back hanging on the handles but with every lush i lifted myself up off the bottom of the birth pool.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Relief!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    You can do! Get your head in the game and do your research before hand. Learn to relax.
