When did you realize you were really in labor?
I realised I was in labour around 11 am, about an hour and a half before I delivered my baby boy. My second midwife arrived and I said "I don't feel like I am getting a break between them now". That's when I was sure I was in active labour, and my sweet babe was definitely on his way!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
At times, as I got further and further into labour, I wished I was in hospital so all the pain could go away with an epidural or some other drugs. My birth companions kept me going though, and those feelings dissipated quickly.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I researched every aspect, and made informed choices. My birth was beautifully natural and safe, because I made informed choices that were supported by my midwives and birth companions.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How present I was for every second. I went off into a birthing zone with my other two births, and do not remember most of them. I was in this birth for every second and it was very real.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Tens machine, Lavender and massage.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
On my knees, in my birth pool in my living room.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I was so relieved. I'd had three weeks of prodromal labor, and he was born on his due date. I was so relieved he was safe, and here with us. I felt so much love for this little person, there had been a longing for him, so strong. I felt like I'd known him my entire life and I was waiting for him to return to me.

Research, research, research! Do not be bullied, be informed. You always have choices.
