  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    Research. Books and videos.
I read Ina Mays, guide to childbirth and the business of being born. Also my midwife suggested child birth classes.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How amazing it was and how powerful I could be if I put my mind to something. I wanted and short labor with minimal pain. And my husband and I did all the research so we could calmly handle any issues that came out way.

  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Sitting on the ball in the shower with water on my tummy, with counter pressure on my lower back during contractions. Also the tub in early labor.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I pushed twice on my side and eventually laid on my back to deliver.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

I was in shock. And still remember her face looking at me. It all felt like a dream.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Do your research, have your husband on board!! Counter pressure was a god send and I had no pain!!! A midwife that you can trust and listen too.
