When did you realize you were really in labor?
About 3 in the afternoon. I work nights and woke up about 1:30 pm with a really strong contraction. I took a bath and showered and the contractions didn't stop. I texted my boyfriend to let him know that I thought I was in labor and we might want to start the hour and a half drive to the hospital.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
It went so quickly. I got to the hospital at 5pm and was only 2cm dilated. At 8:15 I was 8 and wanted to push. I had the dr. break my water to help me get to 10. Naomi was born at 9:46pm. I joked while I was pushing about wanting the drugs and how c-sections have there place. I ended up with a 1st degree tear but big headed babies can do that.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I kept repeating my body is made for this, I can do it. I wouldn't let the dr induce me or schedule a 2nd c-section. I made it very clear to every dr that I met that I was going to have a natural vbac.

What surprised you about your birth?
I did it! I went in and did what I had set out to do. 8 pound 12 ounces and 21 inches later my baby was born.

Be positive and know you can do it.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I breathed with purpose. The birthing ball was wonderful and my boyfriend provided counter-pressure to my hips during contractions.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Unfortunately I was on my back. I think if I had been squatting it may have been a little easier

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Wonderful. I had waited so long for her.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Be positive and know you can do it.
