When did you realize you were really in labor?
When I had the bloody show and contractions went from 7-10 min apart to 2 min apart.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The car ride to the birthing center was pretty rough and waiting to get into the birthing tub.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
My husband and I went to a 5 week natural birthing course which helped us so much. Also, practicing relaxation techniques.

What surprised you about your birth?
How fast the labor was. I expected it to last all day like my first born. Early labor was 4 hours and active labor was less than 2.5 hours.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Hot water hitting me in the shower, squatting on the toilet, and then kneeling in the birthing tub. I also had Mama Natural Affirmation Cards to use during labor, but I went so fast, we didn't get to use them. haha. The Affirmation Cards were encouraging while I was pregnant though. Also, practicing relaxation techniques helped.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Amazement and also shock as my daughter was born with only around 7 pushes.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
You are stronger than you think. A support person or persons during pregnancy and labor are crucial.
