Red Raspberry Leaf Tea and Dates Helped Erin During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

My water broke at 5:45am with mild contractions starting shortly after.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I would say the most challenging thing was having to lay down while in triage. My subtractions were starting to increase with intensity and my room wasn't ready and they wouldn't let me get up!

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Red raspberry leaf tea and 5-6 dates from 36 weeks on. I didn't start drinking tea until 36 weeks. If I have another I'll start that sooner.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How fast my baby came. 3 hours and 15 mins from the time my water broke and contractions started!

  • Mentally prepare, be and stay focused.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Bouncing on a ball. Wiggling my fingers and hands during a contraction, helps to take my mind off the pain and good music.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Laying down on my back: (. I was in a hospital.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Awesome!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Mentally prepare, be and stay focused.
