When did you realize you were really in labor?
I went to my regular 40 week appointment with my midwife. I had had some bloody show and some low back pain that morning so when she was checking my cervix, I found out I was 4cm dilated and then my water broke all over her!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I unfortunately had back labor the entire 12 hrs of labor. I thought I was going to die the pain was so bad and it made it hard to get comfortable anywhere. I am so glad I had a doula to help me. I don't think I would have made it naturally all the way without her!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Read stories and books of how beautiful and good natural birth is, which helped me not give in during the worst pain I've ever experienced.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How hard it was to push. I pushed for 2.5 hrs and in the end she came shooting out like a football because I was pushing with such force. :)
-
Push through whatever comes your way. In the end, you will be thankful you went natural. I felt like I had just conquered the world, it is an empowering experience.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
The tub was the best for me since back labor wouldn't let me sit or lay down anywhere. Pressure points also helped.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
On my back in bed.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
So surreal and beautiful!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Push through whatever comes your way. In the end, you will be thankful you went natural. I felt like I had just conquered the world, it is an empowering experience.
