  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    I knew I was in labor after 5 hours of contractions when they didn't stop after I laid down to rest.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    The most challenging thing for this birth was being unassisted - meaning no midwife present. This was my 6th birth, but I had midwives at all the others.

    I read Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin, and I visualized birthing.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    The labor was way more intense than my other births have been. I didn't expect how much harder an intense birth is.

  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    I labored with my eyes closed and breathed through each contraction. Also, having friends to place their hands on my and massage.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Side-lying, on my right side.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    I was so glad he was here and healthy!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
