When did you realize you were really in labor?
I started getting mild period cramps on Saturday, January 6th, 2018. They became more intense on Sunday. I knew I was in labor when the cramps or contractions required me to focus on breathing through them on Sunday afternoon. My mucus plug kept coming and coming and got bloodier and bloodier.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I kept doubting myself the weekend I went into labor. I was not confident in my ability to get through this. I felt like society was saying I was crazy for doing this. But I got to the hospital and was 7 cm dilated. At that point I felt empowered and like a rock star for laboring at home until I was 7 cm dilated.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I did several things to prepare for childbirth. I read your book, Ina May's book and really did my research. Another thing that really helped prepare me was prayer, faith in God and my spiritual affirmation cards. I taped these to my bedroom wall weeks prior to the birth. I also feel like my doula helped me prepare for this birth experience. She was awesome.

What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised on how stretchy and cooperative my cervix was. I was surprised in the hormones that kicked in during transition that got me through the toughest contractions. I was so surprised that I barely tore and that I DID IT!
