Video Interview With Jaime
-
When did you realize you were really in labor?
I was having more frequent and slightly painful Braxton Hicks contractions so my husband and I called our midwife and she told us to come in and get checked out. She examined me and said I was 3cm dilated so she said for me to labor at home for a couple of hours and then come back.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Near the end, the frequent and painful contractions exhausted me. I remember asking my midwife how much longer it would be and when she said 30min, I almost cried. I was just soo tired!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Reading Mama Natural’s book really helped me. Also talking with my sister and mother who have had a lot of experience really helped.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How painful it is!! But also how amazing and rewarding it is.
-
Find the people who will encourage you, hold your hand, and pray with you through the process.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
A bath really helped!
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I did immediate skin to skin and it was unreal to have my baby that had been inside of me for 9 months on my chest. I don’t think I fully comprehended it.
-
What did you name your baby, and why?
My husband and I named her Esther Rae. We both love the meaning and the story behind the name Esther, and Rae is after my husband’s stepmom.
-
What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Find some good support! I had my husband, sister, mother, and midwife with me and I could not have done it without them! So find the people who will encourage you, hold your hand, and pray with you through the process.
