When did you realize you were really in labor?
At 3am when I woke up with stronger contractions than the tightenings I was experiencing the few days before. My baby was 10 days over due!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
It was 21. 5 hours! At one point I was at a 8cm for almost 4 hours. At one time about 18 hours in i didnt really get a break between contractions and almost lost my mental calm. At times I had the urge to push so bad but my cervix was not ready. Then the urges would back off. Pushing was hard and hurt but only took 25 mins and was so worth it.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Read lots of positive natural labor stories, hired a doula, and researched pain management techniques like counter pressure and essential oils

What surprised you about your birth?
I was able to have the natural experience I so badly wanted even in the hospital and after being told so many negative stories!

Stay positive. Hire a doula. Write a birth plan. Get a great supportive birth team. Trust your body and baby. You truly can do it and you can breathe through anything.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Changing positions, essential oils, people putting counter preassure on my hips, low lighting, BREATHING THROUGH THE PAIN.

What position did you end up delivering in?
Laying down pulling my own legs back under my knees

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Amazing. She was perfect and I was so happy the pain was over

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Stay positive. Hire a doula. Write a birth plan. Get a great supportive birth team. Trust your body and baby. You truly can do it and you can breathe through anything.
