When did you realize you were really in labor?
Contractions started about 1/2 hour apart for 2 hours. Then began getting closer and closer together. I lost my mucus plug about 3 hours after the 1st contraction.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
When I hit the wall where my mind started telling me I couldn't do it. My birth team continued to remind me that my body was made for this! And that I could do it!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I read lots of birth stories so that I was prepared for any circumstance. I had confidence in my midwife that she would make the best decisions for me and my baby.

What surprised you about your birth?
How long it lasted. Pushing is supposed to be the Fun part I though, but my pushing lasted for 3 hours? I never imagined that, but like everyone says, "every birth is different, you must be prepared for any and all circumstances".

It felt like the biggest accomplishment of my life! Although, I was in shock and my legs would not stop shaking. I couldn't believe how warm she was. I was so glad the pushing was over, and that I heard her cry and knew she was alive. It felt like a huge relief!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Sitting in the pool.

What position did you end up delivering in?
In a bed in the standard hospital position. Didn't image that would happen either, but my strength was gone and this is what my midwife suggested.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
You can do it! You will hit that wall, so make sure you have people around you who are confident in you and can remind you that You Can Do It! Prepare yourself by doing lots of research and take care of your body - exercise regularly, eat healthy, keep your mind clear. Breastfeed breastfeed breastfeed! It hurts A LOT at first, but you'll make it through. It soon becomes a routine.
