Private Natural Birth Education Classes And A Doula Helped Christine During Her Natural Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

When my contractions suddenly dropped to 2-5 minutes in between.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I pushed for 2 hours and felt like she’d never come out! Luckily I had about 6 minutes rest between each contraction so I was able to rest up.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Private natural Birth education classes in our home and also enlisting a Doula.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

My baby’s head was in the 90th percentile and her length was in the 97th percentile so she hurt coming out and was really long!

  • Stay positive and know your body was built for this!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

My Doula was suggesting positions to help during the different stages of labor.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

On my back pulling on a sheet tied around a bar for leverage. I tried multiple different positions but that was most comfortable.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Surreal. It took me a few minutes to be able to see her because my eyes were so dry and swollen from pushing for so long.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Midwife. Doula. Birth education classes. Red raspberry leaf tea. Exercise. Also... stay positive and know your body was built for this!
