When did you realize you were really in labor?
The day that my water bag broke, I was unsure if my water bag had truly broke. What started off as small leaks turned into gushing fluid from the vagina. After a couple of convincing discharge, I finally went to the hospital.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Educating myself during childbirth preparation classes, and praying the word of God over myself. Knowing that I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me (Phil4:13).
-
What surprised you about your birth?
The fact that I had pushed out a 9lbs 7oz, 22inch baby. As soon as I heard my sons weight, I yelled to my mom across the room "I beat you!" My siblings and I were all in the 8lbs range. I wasn't expecting such a big baby, let alone pushing him out.

Go for it, if you can! I planned on going natural. But everyone is different, and it doesn't make you any less of woman if you opt for an epidural or have a c-section.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Epidural!!!!!!! It was a totally life saver for me. My contractions were focused on my stomach but later felt an enormous amount of pain around my vagina area after I reached 5cm. Once the epidural was in effect, I was able to rest and 2-3 hours later- I was ready to push.

What position did you end up delivering in?
Semi-sitting after several attempts of semi-lying.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
So surreal. I was overwhelmed with so many emotions! I was happy and excited to finally have met my son. And I felt accomplished and relived that the "hard part" was over.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Go for it, if you can! I planned on going natural. I thought if my mom can do it, so can I. But I learned that everyone is different, and it doesn't make you any less of woman if you opt for an epidural or have a c-section.
