When did you realize you were really in labor?
It was 3am and I was laying in bed. I've just returned to bed from a trip to the bathroom, when I started to feel a slow warm trickle of fluid. Suddenly steady contractions began! I surfed most of my initial contractions at home while taking a shower, shaving my legs, putting eyeliner and mascara, and using the restroom for #2. And it wasn't until 4:15am when my husband, my mother, my grandmother and I left to the hospital.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
During pregnancy, not paying attention to negative opinions about how natural childbirth is almost nonexistent. And during birth, being able to surf the last stage of tough contractions while finding the best birthing position and feeling the urge to push.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I prayed about my pregnancy and the big day everyday. And almost everyday, I read literature about natural childbirth and even talked to my baby about helping mama get ready for the big day. As baby's estimated due date kept approaching, my husband and I practiced the hospital route and the breathing techniques for each of the stages of labor. Actively including my husband throughout my preparation was an essential part in the achievement of natural childbirth.

What surprised you about your birth?
How incredibly strong and resilient our bodies are. And how baby and mama can beautifully work together.

Initially the squatting position using the birthing bar and then sitting while supported by the head of the bed while knees were pushed back by my husband and a nurse.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Your whole body is trembling from feeling so many emotions all at once. Instantly I felt like a lioness holding my precious warm cub.
