When did you realize you were really in labor?
I tried laying down in bed after having a back ache and pains in my back which I thought were just Braxton Hicks contractions after a long day, but the next contraction I had I couldn't lie down for, so I told my husband this was it and he were going to the hospital now.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
This time the pushing was the most intense. And I only pushed for less than 5 minutes! My husband told me her head was kinda sideways coming out so I'm not sure if that added to the intensity or not.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Being my third baby I think the best thing I did was to really enjoy being pregnant and not stress about the upcoming pain. Also, I had a birth plan but was completely at peace knowing I could throw that out the window and do something else if labor deemed it necessary.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How different it was! It reminded me each birth is its own unique experience to look back on. And also how quickly the pushing time was compared to my two prior births.

Do a lot of research and have a plan of what your ultimate plan A will be. But be willing to switch to plan B and C if need be. I think staying on your feet as long as possible is the best thing that worked for me for all 3 of my birthing experiences.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I tried the new gas the hospital offered. I'm not sure what the name was. It did not take the pain away, but in between contractions I felt absolutely amazing and relaxed which made me have enough strength for the next contraction.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
The hospital bed was in the upright position, so I was laying back against it, but not flat on my back by any means. I was basically sitting up and nurses were holding back my legs and pushing against my feet.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I will admit it wasn't as warming as an experience as with my second baby. My first was a shock, my second was emotional and heartwarming, and this third was I think a feeling of relief pushing was over and bittersweet my pregnancy was really over.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Do a lot of research and have a plan of what your ultimate plan A will be. But be willing to switch to plan B and C if need be. I think staying on your feet as long as possible is the best thing that worked for me for all 3 of my birthing experiences.
