When did you realize you were really in labor?
Driving myself to work the day after my due date.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Mentally, the most challenging part was any unnecessary fear/worry I built up in my mind throughout my pregnancy. Physically, transition was the most challenging part of going natural.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
A natural child birth class, having a doula and delivering in a setting conducive to having a natural birth (birth center).

What surprised you about your birth?
How short of a time I had really intense pain. I expected to be in unbearable pain for a lot longer. Most of my labor was actually quite exciting, relaxed and enjoyable.

Educate yourself on all aspects of a natural birth. The unknown causes fear. Talk to other moms that have gone natural, ask your midwife or doctor every last question you can think of, surround yourself with positive people and know that your body was meant to do this!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
A warm shower and changing/finding positions that were the most comfortable for me.

What position did you end up delivering in?
Hands and knees. I dropped my head down and was leaning on my forearms at the end.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Perfect. I immediately felt so connected to my baby.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
