When did you realize you were really in labor?
I never went into spontaneous labor, I was dilated with a balloon catheter, and then induced with cytotec. I went into active labor 1 hour after taking the pill.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
My baby was posterior, so I spent 4 hours pushing him down into position, this wasn't pushing him out, this was pushing just to get him into position so I could fully dilate. It was EXHAUSTING!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I worked out and ate mostly healthy. I think this helped give me the endurance needed to go through natural childbirth with a posterior baby.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I was shocked by how exhausting it was and how relieved I felt once I was finally pushing my baby out. After HOURS of very intense contractions and squatting during each contraction, I was pleasantly surprised that it was finally time to push him out.

I strongly advise them to work out, eat healthy, and get lots of rest, because it truly is like running a marathon
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Moving during contractions helps so much! Don't get me wrong, I begged my midwife for pain meds, but I obviously didn't get any.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
On my back on the bed.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was just a relief to finally hold him and see him!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
I strongly advise them to work out, eat healthy, and get lots of rest, because it truly is like running a marathon
