What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
The Mama Natural birthing classes were the only ones I took and they really helped prepare me. Also, mentally preparing myself and visualizing how I would handle the pain (remain calm and breath through the contractions).
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How LONG it took before baby arrived! My water broke around midnight and he didn't arrive until 1pm the following day, 36 hours of labor. I had prepared mentally for 12-24 hours, so it was difficult when things didn't progress much for nearly 24 hours.

I don't think there are words to describe the instant connection between mama and baby, it really is as wonderful as everyone says. I was also very relieved that he was out!
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Counter pressure from my midwife and husband, and the birthing tub felt great too.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I ended up in a lunge position on top of my bed, had to open those hips!
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I don't think there are words to describe the instant connection between mama and baby, it really is as wonderful as everyone says. I was also very relieved that he was out!

How did the Mama Natural Birth Class help you in your childbirth?
I loved learning everything from square one as I knew so little about childbirth, natural or otherwise. I especially liked hearing the personal stories from Mama Natural, Maura, and the families.
