When did you realize you were really in labor?
I had been having prodromal labor for almost two months, so when it finally happened I felt defeated and didn't want to head to the hospital. We had done soooooo many trips for false labor. But the morning it happened the contractions just felt different, painful yet beautiful because it meant things were moving.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I think knowing it was our last baby. There was something calming and overwhelming about that. Feeling ready to have him, but sad to be done really helped me to focus and prep for this final round.

What surprised you about your birth?
How relaxing it was. How strong you realize you are once you're in the moment. Also how much support I had from the staff at the hospital. Things certainly have changed for the better over the past 14 years.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Deep breathing, having my feet rubbed, low moans and sounds. Making those deep sounds really helps to alleviate the actual pain.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I labored completely on my side, but delivered on my back, legs up.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Incredible. Not only was this time different because it was my last, it was different knowing we prepared fully for him. This was such a beautiful birth. All of mine were amazing, but this one just evoked pure, raw emotion.
