What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I made a list of all the essential oils I wanted to use and why or when during labor. For example: Lemongrass-please use when Mom is depleted. Then I posted it on the wall next to a shelf that hadn’t those particular oils on it. My midwife didn’t hesitate to jump in and use whatever was necessary all throughout my birth.

What surprised you about your birth?
Birth was completely out of my cognitive understanding. Without ever feeling out of control or scared I labored and then gave birth to my girl. I had always heard of women crying for pain meds or to go to the hospital during transition but I didn’t. I must have known with every cell in my body that this was the best place for me. I never could fully comprehend during each moment exactly how it was all happening. It just did, my body didn’t need my brain to catch up. It just did the work!

These amazing women were all with me and helping me to give birth to my little girl. I cannot wait to show her what powerful women were surrounding her as she came to rest in my arms.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
For me, I labored mostly in a tall squat while leaning on my table or on my knees leaning on my couch. I just kept finding a position that worked and stuck with it until it didn’t work for me anymore.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Laying on my right side.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Unreal, I think we both just clung to eachother in complete shock!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Have strong, sweet women around you that you trust. This picture shows me just before I pushed my little lady out. I was resting between pushing and my husband took this photo. It’s me laying on the bed and my midwives and my chiropractor are sitting around me. It was a calm moment right before the climax and there they all were, sitting around me telling me how amazing I was. It makes me tear up thinking of it. It was such a powerful photo for me to look back on. These amazing women were all with me and helping me to give birth to my little girl. I cannot wait to show her what powerful women were surrounding her as she came to rest in my arms.
