When did you realize you were really in labor?
It was 1am when my first contractions started. I was able to sleep through them while they came every ten minutes or so. Until 4am when POP, my waters broke and I knew it was game on.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing about having a natural birth, for me, if when I am in transition. I know the end is near but am so over everything that just want to give in and be done.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
The most helpful thing for me is the love and support my family and midwives showed. They are always so encouraging and stress free.

What surprised you about your birth?
I had been at 8 cm for about an hour and half and was so ready for an epidural. Deep down I didn't want one, I knew after having our second child at home, unmediated, that I could give birth again naturally... But I was stuck at 8cm. With a good flip of position and some pushing, I made it to 10 cm and delivered our baby in about 15 minutes!

Amazing. We didn't know the gender but I had started thinking it was a boy. But boy were we wrong... Another little girl!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I rocked on the labor ball for a while and my husband used counter-pressures on my hips which helped a lot! My midwives always encouraged me to use any sounds and noises I was making to help push the baby down and not just to yell. This was helping to bare down and work the baby's head down.

What position did you end up delivering in?
On my back of all positions. I hated that position when delivering my second child but this one just flowed this time. And when I went into the hospital I had the thought of. 'Im not delivering on my back just because its easier for the doctor or something'. I went from my hands and knees, to laying down on my side to delivering comfortably on my back... To my own surprise

How did the Mama Natural Birth Class help you in your childbirth?
It was encouraging to have a natural side to things instead of what shots I needed and when genetic testing was recommended.
