What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Pray and take a refresher of our childbirth education class.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
That, not only was I able to have an unmedicated birth but that I delivered my daughter by myself while my husband and I were in route to the hospital.
-
Surrender to the process and don't underestimate your strength. You are incredible and you can do this!
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Prayer, breathing through the contractions and keeping my head clear (not getting overwhelmed).
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Sitting in the front seat of our truck (while driving down the interstate). Thank the Lord for the "oh crap" handle. Ha!
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Felt surreal. With the crazy events surrounding her birth, it didn't seem real that she was here and that I delivered her. I was overwhelmed and incredibly proud. I was grateful that the Lord answered my prayer for an unmedicated birth. I wanted to have an unmedicated birth with my first child, my son, but ended up with an epidural. My daughter's birth was so redemptive.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
That your body is absolutely amazing and was created to birth a baby. Surrender to the process and don't underestimate your strength. You are incredible and you can do this!
