When did you realize you were really in labor?
About 4 hours after we had sex and the contractions didn't go away!
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Keeping my mind from straying into worry. I work hard to stay quite, in the zone, and trust my body. If my mind gets distracted, I tend to lose focus and feel pain more.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
The most helpful thing I did was keep the house clean and organized all the way to the end. That way when it was time for baby I knew where everything was and so did the husband and midwife.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised when I was checked for the first time and I had already gotten through transition and was 9+ cm. This was the most exciting news and I moved to the tub after hearing this but it slowed things down and baby still didn't come for another hour and a half.

This was our first son and we didn't know what we were having. So when we saw he was a boy it was a lot of excitement and tears! It's hard to put words to the feeling because it was pure magic.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I listened to Dave Matthew's Band and labored in different positions. When a contraction came I cued my husband to push on my low back. And I told myself to relax through it and trust my body.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Squatting in the tub.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
This was our first son and we didn't know what we were having. So when we saw he was a boy it was a lot of excitement and tears! It's hard to put words to the feeling because it was pure magic.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Believe in your body and how God created it. Find your inner strength and never tell yourself you can't do it. Read other encouraging stories towards the end of your pregnancy and if this is your first natural birth, get a doula!!
