Joining a Maternity Fitness Class in Her Community Helped Priscilla During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    It was hard to tell if the baby was just moving or if it was false labor. Once I couldn't sleep through the contractions I figured it might be the real thing.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    Not knowing how long I would have to push for.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    I joined a maternity fitness class in my community that helped me strengthen the muscles I would use most during labor. I prayed and mentally prepared. I did many of the things I read on this blog like drink red raspberry leaf tea. I was also blessed to have the support of my husband and family.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    How short it turned out to be and how amazing our bodies have been designed. It was so beautiful for me to be able to experience a smooth and natural birth. I was also shocked at how little the nurses were involved, seemed like they just let nature take its course.

  • Keep an open mind but envision yourself doing it. Breathe and stay calm. Do your best to prepare your body physically, strengthen that pelvic floor!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Breathing! And then my nurse reminded me to keep my eyes open while breathing to not focus on the pain.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Laying down on my back.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    It was the most amazing feeling in the world!!! I will never forget her warm skin against mine and the sound of her breathing and her looking up at me! I truly felt God's grandeur.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    Keep an open mind but envision yourself doing it. Breathe and stay calm. Do your best to prepare your body physically, strengthen that pelvic floor!
