When did you realize you were really in labor?
I started having contractions at 7:30 pm Sunday, but didn't realize I was in labor and until probably 5:30 am. I kept being afraid that I was just in false labor!
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Being patient. the contractions were intense, of course. But just riding them out for hours was the worst part. Pushing was a breeze.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Hypnobirthing classes and just educating myself on all things related to natural childbirth. Also, hiring a doula. Could not have done it without her.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
How much relief I felt when it was finally time to push. That's what I was most afraid of and it was the "easiest" part.
-
Just do it. Really, just set your mind to it and remember the reasons you decided to go natural in the first place.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Counter pressure on my hips from my doula and husband. Best thing ever. Also, deep breathing.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I pushed for a little bit on my hands and knees, but actually delivered him on my back/sitting up.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
The most amazing feeling. I couldn't believe that he was my son and we made him and I carried him and birthed him. I felt so much love and definitley proud.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Just do it. Really, just set your mind to it and remember the reasons you decided to go natural in the first place.
