When did you realize you were really in labor?
My midwifes came to check me wendsay, match 8th. The night before I had felt my first contraction. They told me I was in early labor. I have surges on and off until the night of the 10th. At 11pm we let the midwifes know things were picking up, and they said they were on their way. That's when things got real!

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I didn't find anything challenging. I had been preparing for this for a long time. But if I had to pick something, it would be that I was so tired! I had been up for 3 nights unable to sleep well before going into labor.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Hypnobirthing and research! And trusting myself and my body! I knew how I wanted my babies birth to go, and I made it happen!

What surprised you about your birth?
That my baby was a girl!!! We wanted to wait to find out the gender, but we were convinced she was going to be a he!

It's amazing what your body can do! The experience of letting your body do what it was meant to do is priceless!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Breathing and not fighting! Relaxing into the surges, and not tensing my body. Also, having my husband hold my hips or let me use him while squating down.

On my hands and knees

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I was excited! But also focused on getting her skin to skin.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
It's amazing what your body can do! The experience of letting your body do what it was meant to do is priceless! Don't let people put negitive thoughts in your mind about giving birth. I recommend hypnobirthing, reading positive stories and just trusting yourself! Surround yourself with great resources and a strong support team!
