When did you realize you were really in labor?
I ended up being induced because of the baby's size. The Doctor was concerned the baby was getting to big.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The most challenging thing about going natural was trying to keep my body relaxed through the contractions and not tense up. Staying relaxed and breathing deep from my abdomen helped my body open up and progress quicker.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I used the hypnobabies home study course! It was very helpful to mentally prepare me to stay positive and focused. It also helped my husband with knowing what to say to keep me in the right state of mind.

What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised how long it took! With this being my first baby and being induced it took a while to get to active labor. I was also surprised by how much I actually enjoyed the whole birth process!

I couldn't believe I achieved the labor and delivery I dreamed of and ended up with the greatest reward. I just kept looking at his little face in disbelief he was actually here and all mine to love and kiss on!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Movement!! Staying active helped me the most! I squatted through contractions, sat on a birthing ball, swaying my hips back and forth while my husband squeezed my pelvis! Laying down was more painful than being up and moving!
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I ended up delivering in the traditional position with my feet in stirrups. I was surprised because I pictured my self delivering on all fours or squatting, but it felt the most comfortable. Pushing through my contractions in that position was most effective.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Pure bliss! I couldn't believe I achieved the labor and delivery I dreamed of and ended up with the greatest reward. I just kept looking at his little face in disbelief he was actually here and all mine to love and kiss on!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Never doubt yourself! You can do it! Even if you get to a point in the process where you want to give in just remind yourself why you chose to go natural and that when that sweet baby is in your arms nothing matters any more! I also had a doula who was a saving grace!! I couldn't not have done it with out her! I highly recommend a doula they are full of ideas with keeping your labor active and contractions effective!
