When did you realize you were really in labor?
When I needed everyone around me to not be so loud, and when I just wanted my music playing, my husband near me, and to be in that free birthing zone
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Finding acceptance and understanding from family not used to home birth. We got some very sad comments and it took us a while to set everybody's opinion aside and do our thing.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Prayer. I rallied my closest, spiritually strongest friends and I asked them to cover me in prayer. Incidentally the doulas that attended my birth, as well as my birth photographer were all part of this prayer team. I felt supported and encouraged.

What surprised you about your birth?
How fast it went! How quickly my second baby came out! How amazing a home birth feels compared to a hospital one, even if big births were fully natural, med free and all!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I sniffed on lavender essential oil and I had prayer cards made. Some had lyrics from my favourite Christian songs, other bible verses.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I gave birth in the water :)
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was an out of body experience. we didn't find out the gender and even that took backseat to the wonder of catching my baby in the water and basically DELIVERING my own little human! It was a girl, by the way ;)

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
It. Is. WORTH IT!
Recovery time is a breeze, and it's the most wonderful thing you'll ever experience.
