When did you realize you were really in labor?
After working all day I came home with plans to do baby laundry and finish getting ready for Kai's arrival. That quickly changed when my water broke about 30 minutes after getting home, and despite not having any contractions yet I knew I was in labor.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The hardest part about going natural for me was the length of time I was in labor. I was already tired from working all day and then contractions came on fast and strong and then stalled for hours at 8cm. I was exhausted and in pain, but knew I was strong and just had to push through.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Hiring a doula was the best thing I could've ever done. She coached me and my husband through all 23 hours of labor. She kept me focused and positive. When I was having internal struggles she talked me through my fears.

What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised by the amount of love you instantly feel for that baby. Nobody can prepare you for the overwhelming joy of holding your child for the first time.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I just listened to my body, moved when I felt it was time to try something new. I also found humming through contractions to help.

What position did you end up delivering in?
The pushing phase of my labor came on quick so I ended up on my back.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was the most amazing feeling in the world.
