When did you realize you were really in labor?
I'm pretty sure I was in early labor all morning, but my husband got home from work at 2:45 and I told him it would be fine for him to go to the gym (as long as he kept his cellphone close by!). By 4:00 I texted him and told him to come home now. I could no longer stand during a contraction.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Not knowing what it would be like or if I'd be able to really do it!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
We hired a doula! We had confidence in her and the experience she brought with her made us feel safe and taken care of!
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised that there was not one moment that I thought about getting an epidural. I was also surprised when I got to the hospital and was 9 cm! I had hoped to get there earlier and use the hot tub to relax, but that didn't happen!

You can do it! It won't last forever and you'll be so proud of yourself for setting your mind to it and working hard to make it happen!!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
The only position I could be in was on my hands and knees. My husband and doula took turns applying pressure tinny lower back. I also moaned deeply during the contraction.

What position did you end up delivering in?
I ended up elevated on my back.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
After 2 hours of pushing (she was crowning most of that time) and an episiotomy due to her heart rate speeding up, I felt great relief that she was out of me!!
