Herbal Teas Helped Lisa During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

The contraction was actually painful and I saw my first bloody show.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    Intensity of contractions.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Herbal teas to encourage contractions to prepare and tighten the uterus. We also planned and had the whole setup ready for a water birth.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

A FAST labor. 2.5 hrs start to finish after my last birth of 18 hrs. I didn't actively "push" until the head was already out. My body did it on its own. Literally!

  • You will not regret it! I felt amazing after the birth and my body was just allowed to do its natural course. It's the best!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Slow breathing. Hands and knees until I got in the tub. Allowing my core and bottom to float in the water during contractions.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

In the water. My arms supported my body on the tub bottom and my entire midsection was buoyant in the water.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Incredible! So incredible that we forgot to check her gender for at least 5 minutes!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

You will not regret it! I felt amazing after the birth and my body was just allowed to do its natural course. It's the best!
