When did you realize you were really in labor?
Contractions and leaking were happening on and off overnight. After a mile walk uphill the next morning I knew it was GO TIME!
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
There’s no timetable. For someone who is a planning and control freak, having to take each moment as it comes, while in some discomfort, can be very challenging.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Everything was within arms reach or was spelled out in an email to my doula about a week prior. During my first home birth my midwife and doula had to ask me where everything was while I was laboring. This time no questions. They could easily find everything I needed.

What surprised you about your birth?
Baby ended up being breech. That was an intense surprise!

We do a lot of things naturally, minimally, and counter-culturally. We just don’t give ourselves an out. There’s no other option. This works so well for us because it forces us to be resourceful and not cave to convenience.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Blow up birth tub. So comfy and took pressure off my sore joints. Also wet towels out of a crock pot in my back during contractions worked until transition.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Like a huge relief. I only pushed for 7 minutes but having him breech was very scary. I was not prepared mentally for what was needed so when he came out 100% ok I was nothing but relieved.

What did you name your baby, and why?
Judah. His older brothers name is Jameson (nick name Jama). I loved how Jama and Judah sounded together. Plus, how my 2 year old Jama says Judah... ???

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
We do a lot of things naturally, minimally, and counter-culturally. We just don’t give ourselves an out. There’s no other option. This works so well for us because it forces us to be resourceful and not cave to convenience.
