Having An Open Communication With Her Partner Helped Crystal During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

Contractions started around 7:30am. I tried walking around the house, taking a shower, stretching, etc. and when nothing gave me relief I called my husband and told him that I was having contractions and he needed to come home.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I had back labor. All of my contractions and anything I felt was in my lower back and finding a somewhat comfortable position was difficult because of that.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

The most helpful thing that I did was make sure that I had open communication with my partner. He knew what to expect during the birthing process, and he knew what my plan was and what I wanted to happen or not happen. He was able to advocate for me and was prepared if we had to deviate from my plan in any way.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

My childbirth process was very fast! My contractions started at 7:30am; I was at the hospital at 10:30am and already 6cm dilated; and by 12:20pm I was holding my baby boy.

  • There is nothing greater than having some control over the birthing process and being able to immediately bond/connect with your baby!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Birthing ball so that I wasn't just laying in bed. As well as my partner providing counter pressure on my hips and lower back.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

I was sitting/standing until fully dilated and then transferred into bed on my back.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Everything was calm as soon as I got my baby in my arms.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

There is nothing greater than having some control over the birthing process and being able to immediately bond/connect with your baby!
