When did you realize you were really in labor?
When I actually got into the birthing tub. I had a couple “false alarms” so I still didn’t think it was go time because I was able to get up and talk between contractions.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The waiting game. This pregnancy was by far my most uncomfortable. And this baby was eight days past his due date!!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Having a previous home birth definitely helped me have better control this time around. I was able to focus and really work with my body.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
My husband and I had said that having a night north would be ideal so that our big kids could sleep and we wouldn’t need someone to watch them. I also predicted I’d be 8 cm when went into labor. Both of those are exactly what happened!

I just imagined myself running a marathon (and I don’t enjoy running). But with every contraction I just thought you’re almost done. Keep going. As soon as it’s done, that’s one less mile and you’ll be at the finish line receiving your precious prize!!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Hot water on my back and a freezing cold rag on my neck and face. My husband also applied counter pressure to my lower back which helped a lot.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Kneeling over in the birth tub.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Relieving!! I was so happy to have my baby in my arms!!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
First, just get into the mindset that baby will come when baby and God are ready. When it’s time for labor and delivery just remember that our bodies were created for this!! Work with your body and know that as soon as it’s done it will absolutely be worth it.
