When did you realize you were really in labor?
I started to feel 'new sensations' in the evening, and they were clearly getting stronger an closer to each other once in bed later that night. We measured length and duration, and texted my doula who recommended to take a bath. She came to our house when I was at 4-1-1.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
The pushes. Even with lots of preparation, that was... strong!

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
My doula was my biggest support during birth. Hearing her voice reminding me to breath was a sort of confirmation that what I was feeling was right and normal, so it gave me confidence through the entire process.
But I also think that all the rest of my preparation - incl. hypnobirthing, exercise, chiropractic, acupuncture and perineal massage - helped me to have a fast natural childbirth without tearing.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
Having a baby for real at the end of the process!
-
Once you are deeply convinced that your body is meant to do it, and you feel safe with your team, you just go with confidence.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Warm bath and lower back pressure during the surges.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
On my knees, arms on the bed
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Nothing special, honestly. I was still in "operation mode", the emotions came in peaks once at home.
-
What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Educate yourself and get the right team for you (e.g. midwives and a doula you trust) - once you are deeply convinced that your body is meant to do it, and you feel safe with your team, you just go with confidence.
