  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    When my water broke.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    Waiting for my contractions to become intense. It took almost 21 hours for my contractions to get intense after my water broke.

    Making sure I had a doula and an excellent midwife!

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    It was a girl! This was our 8th child and we didn't find out what it was this time. With 5 boys already, we were all hoping for a girl.

  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    My doula's coaching and support. She reminded me to relax and breath.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Standing up! I was planning on a water birth but didn't have time to step into the pool. My doula had me put my arms around her shoulders and With just two contractions this way, baby was out!

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Absolutely amazing! My midwife immediately handed her to me and I sat down on our couch. I had to flip baby over on my chest so my husband could tell me what it was! A girl!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
