When did you realize you were really in labor?
I had a planned c-section at 35 weeks because my baby was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at 22 weeks. They had to deliver her early.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
This was my seventh child and the hardest part was NOT being able to do things naturally. I had never had anything but natural births and they were always wonderful.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I was thankful for the birth class as it had a section on C Sections. I had never had one and it helped me prepare for it.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I did not know how long it would take to recover from a c section. I would tell any one who is thinking of doing one because they afraid of natural birth not to do it. After six completely natural births I can tell you natural is far better. Also, if anyone is faced with the diagnosis of a hydrocephalus baby and has looked at pictures and are worried their baby will have a big ugly head, don't worry, your baby will be yours and you will fall completely in love you your big headed baby! I fell in love with mine and her head had really gotten much better. :-)

It had a wonderful section on c-sections and it really helped me prepare for that. It helped me with my birth plan and breast feeding.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
I had to use medication as I had a c section. I did not like the way it made me feel so out of it. My natural births were much better.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I had to deliver on my back because of the C-section. My last birth I had a water birth at home and it was great!

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was wonderful. They got me to NICU fairly quickly and let me try to nurse her for 30min before they took me away to my postpartum room. She nursed twice the first day even though I could not be with her the whole time.
