When did you realize you were really in labor?
When my contractions were worse than period cramps and I just had an overwhelming feeling of just knowing.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I have had two other children naturally but this time what made it more changing was knowing we had no time to leave and would be doing everything at home with our midwife team. I felt that choosing this way of natural meant there was no chickening out and getting pain meds.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
As silly as it sounds I was able to get my house organized and clean making it a peaceful environment.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
I was surprised we actually had a home birth, the plan was to go to the birthing center but home was a back up plan and something I deeply wanted but didn't want to commit to in fear of things going wrong. I was surprised to have my son in our tiny town home bath tub and just sit in our bedroom in awe that it all happened here and I/we did it!

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Water! I love being in the water, I love the pressure it relieves!
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
I was on my back for the most part, the best I could be in the tub.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was amazing! He is my fourth, but it was amazing and incredible! I felt so strong, thankful, amazed and blessed!
